Hi there stampers!  Today’s post is a cool trick I learned from one of my Albuquerque Stampin’ & Scrapping buddies.  We were doing a scrapbook weekend and she was working on decorating CD cases.  She made a CD Case picture frame for each player on her childs soccer team.  On her inside cover she had each player sign and then her CD was all the photos she took during the season of the team at all their games.  What a cool idea!

I chose to adapt her idea for the CD of photos I took of my friends 50th birthday party. (Love you Denise!)  I found the idea for this “Who Turned Fifty?” card idea on Pinterest and made with the colors of her beloved San Francisco Giants.  The card was a huge hit and made everyone at the party laugh.

But, onto today’s project… I started with an empty CD case. (I have lots of these, since I’ve burned all my music CD’s for use digitally on my iPod.)

I removed all the papers from the inside and popped out the “hub”. (note the little “nobs” that hold it in place.)

Next, I used the original paper I removed from the CD holder to figure out what size to cut the cardstock to fit inside.

I used a Basic Black background layered with Pumpkin Pie and Very Vanilla.  I then cut 1″ strips of Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie and Very Vanilla and used Mary’s technique of using the hexagon punch to turn them into little flags.

For the inside, I used a “printable” CD (I got mine at WalMart, they were made by Memorex) and stamped on it.  I then stamped the same design onto very vanilla to put on the left inside of the case. The colors were chosen based on her love of the San Francisco Giants and the Lovely as a Tree stamp set was used based on the fact that her party was held at a Northern California park under the trees.

The trees are stamped in Wild Wasabi and then Wild Wasabi was sponged under the trees for the grass.  Soft Sky on a sponge dauber gave me the sky.  For the sun, I punched a circle out of cardstock and held the paper with the hole where I wanted the sun and used Delightful Daffodil and Pumpkin Pie ink on sponge daubers to fill in the sun.

I ran the black ribbon thru the holes in the edge of the CD case and taped it down between the layers of cardstock to hide the ends.  This way it can be hung on the wall as a decoration if she wants.

I hope this idea inspires you to make something creative.

Happy Stamping,

Lisa
