Hi Stampers. Happy Father’s Day! I’m super excited about today’s card. It’s a card I made for my husband for fathers day. I also want to thank my upline, Mary Fish from Stampin’ Pretty for being kind enough to feature it on her blog today. Thanks, Mary!
Marc and I have been married 25 years this September and I’ve been a stamper since 1995, so he’s seen me do a lot. I needed to make something different, something as special as he is…. He’s a carpenter / cabinetmaker, so naturally it had to have something to do with tools… A few months ago, I had done a baby dresser card that was really popular with my readers and I used that fold and drawers idea to make a rolling tool box! How cool is this!
The card fold is called a side stepper fold. It all starts with a Real Red card base, 8.5″ x 5.5″ scored at 4.25″. Then there is a few extra cuts and fold to get the side stepper effect. See below –
For the drawers I used Real Red card stock and inked the edges with Real Red ink using a sponge dauber. For the handle I cut a thin strip of silver foil card stock and glued those to top of drawers with a small amount of monoadhesive glue. The drawers were then adhered to the card base with snail adhesive.
I used the Stampin’ Up! Chevron embossing folder to emboss a 2″ x 3″ piece of silver foil card stock and adhered that with snail adhesive to the back fold to the right of the tool box. I then used the Stampin’ Up! Hardwood stamp with Soft Suede ink to stamp onto Soft Suede card stock. I then used the Stampin’ Trimmer to cut the boards apart. I adhered two of those boards to the back fold.
I used the Stampin’ Up! Crazy About You stamp set to stamp the sign. (It’s such a useful set of words!) I used memento black ink to stamp onto Whisper White card stock and then trimmed around the words to make a rectangle sign.
To make the tools I used more silver foil card stock, Soft Suede card stock and Daffodil Delight card stock, a basic black marker and a few small circle punches and a pair of paper snips. (We used to have a set of tool stamps – totally tool – but it retired in 2012) They were a little more tedious and time consuming, but he’s worth it!

I love how you make a hard looking card simpler to take on with your steps, measurements, and tidbits of info to make it look more rustic! By the age of your card, I’m coming in late. But tools are timeless in my household!
