Hi Stampers.  I’m back again with another fun technique we used back in the late 90s.  It’s fun how, as stampers, we find a fun idea and use it like crazy until the next fun idea comes along, then we forget a few until something sparks a memory.  This was a blast from the past – that I just loved!

bookmark-cardThe fun is on the inside of this card – a bookmark!

bookmark-card-openStampin’ Up! had a special blade for the rotary cutter that did a perforated cut.  That reminded me of how we used to make a “tear off bookmark” on our cards way back when.  So, I just HAD to give it a try again!

The card base is a little different.  It’s 5.5″ x 10.5″ (scored at 4.25).  This makes one side about 2″ bigger than the other.  That’s perfect – that will be our bookmark.  I used the rotary perforated blade to “cut” at 8.5″.

Stampin’ Tip: Sadly the perforating blade didn’t sell well and was discontinued with the release of the new catalog this year.  But, I was thinking about it  –  I bet you could use you could score at 8.5″ and use your piercing tool to make perforations along this line.

For the front of the card, I used a 5.25″ x 4″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the sun from Kinda Eclectic in Daffodil Delight ink, letting it hang of the card stock so that I just stamped 1/4 of the image onto my card stock. The tree from the Sheltering Tree stamp set was stamped in Early Espresso ink for the trunk, Wild Wasabi ink for the grass, Garden Green for the flower stems, then Pink Pirouette and Melon Mambo ink for the blossoms and flower tops.

Inside the card I used another 4.25″ x 4″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the grass in Wild Wasabi ink and the bikes in Basic Black and Soft Sky, then the swooshes in the sky are also Soft Sky ink.  For the bookmark portion I used a 1.75″ x 5.25″ strip of Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the tree, sun and grass to match the front of the card.

I then carefully inserted my card base into the scallop tag topper punch positioning it so that it punched the top of my bookmark, then punched the top of my 1.75″ x 5.25″ strip of Very Vanilla card stock too.  Then layered them on top of each other and then adhered the front and inside of the card as well, using snail adhesive.  I used a 1/8″ circle punch to punch a hole in the center top of the book mark with the intention of slipping some bakers twine through the hole before sending my card on its way to it’s recipient.

Isn’t that fun?!?  I hope you give it a try!
