Hi Stampers. Happy Harvest Season!  If you have been following me for a while, you know that I am a Finance Manager at a winery.  We are in full blown harvest season.  It’s been a busy month.  September seems to have flown by!  I can’t believe that in just a few days it will be October.  That means that Halloween is fast approaching.  I’m not a huge fan of Halloween, but I saw this idea of dressing the owl up in a pumpkin costume on Pinterest and thought it would go well with this weeks Pals Paper Arts sketch.

This weeks sketch called for the two bars, one across the bottom and one along the right side. I started with a Tangelo Twist card base (5.5″ x 8.5″, scored at 4.25″) A current color would be Pumpkin Pie, I’m just using up some left over card stock from the recently retired in colors. I then added a 5.25″ x 4″ layer of Basic Black card stock that I dry embossed using my Big Shot and the Lucky Stars embossing folder. For the bottom bar I used 4″ x 1.25″ strip of gold foil paper and 4″ x 1″ strip of gold glimmer paper.  For the side bar I used a 5.25″ x 1″ strip of Basic Grey card stock and a 5.25″ x .75″ strip of black glimmer paper. I used a 1.5″ circle punch to cut the moon out of Crushed Curry card stock and sponged the edge with Smokey Slate ink and a sponge dauber.

I used the owl builder punch to punch the owl out of Chocolate Chip card stock and the eyes out of Whisper White card stock.  I then used the .75″ to punch out 4 circles from Pumpkin Pie card stock.  I sponged the edges of each circle with a Pumpkin Pie ink and a sponge dauber. I layered the three over his belly as and drew the face on the pumpkin with a Basic Black marker. I cut the fourth circle in half and used half as his hat. I used the bird builder punch to punch the leaves out of Garden Green card stock and glued them onto the back.  A drop of mono adhesive was used to attach the eyes to the owl and the pupils were drawn on with a Basic Black marker.  The owl was then attached to the card with stampin’ dimensionals.

The inside has a 5.25″ x 4″ layer of Very Vanilla card stock.  I stamped the greeting from the retired Good Greetings stamp set. (It was the only Happy Halloween greeting I owned…)  For the bottom bar I used a 4″ x 1″ strip of Pumpkin Pie card stock and a 4″ x .75″ strip of black glimmer paper.  I cut the end with paper snips to make the flag.

I finalized the card by using a Very Vanilla envelope and some retired DSP to line the envelope.  I hope it inspires you and that you pop over to Pals Paper Arts to try your hand at this weeks sketch challenge.
