Exciting Changes

Stampin' Up! trimmer & die cutting and dry embossing line changes are coming

Hi Stampers. By now, you may have heard that Stampin’ Up! has some big changes on the horizon.Don’t worry, they are going to be good changes in the long run. On June 4th, when the new catalog goes live, we will no longer have our trimmer or the Big Shot.  This is because they are working on new and improved models of both.  We do not have a date for when the new versions will be released.  That part is a little frustrating, but I am happy that they are waiting until they are perfected before releasing them.

If you wish to purchase any of the retiring items, I have included a list of supplies on their way out with links to my online store.  When you place your order, don’t forget to use this months Mystery Hostess code – from the bar on the right – for your chance to be this months hostess and earn FREE hostess rewards!

Stampin’ Up! has ordered what would normally be six months of replacement cutting blades inventory (based on recent historical patterns) to help  during this transition away from our current trimmer. But please know that this news could cause faster inventory depletion. As of April 15, the order limit for the blades will increase from three to six (and the limit will remain at six until they’re no longer available). And from now until September, Stampin’ Up! will receive intermittent shipments from the supplier. Throughout these months, we anticipate times when the blades will not be orderable (and not offered as a backorder). During those downtimes, you will have the option to enter an email address to receive notification when the blades are available again.

Stampin' Up! die cutting and dry embossing line changes are coming
The Big Shot and our current style of dies is retiring. Dies and embossing folders will stay. Since we’re using a new supplier, the dies and folders will be manufactured differently; this means the way you use the new style of dies and folders will be a little different than how you used the old style. Both the new-style and old-style dies and embossing folders can work with any die-cutting & embossing machine (in some cases, adaptations like shims may be required because the gap between rollers on machines may vary slightly between manufacturers; this is explained more in our Q&A PDF below).

Some Highlights On The New-Style Dies & Embossing Folders

Since we’re using a new supplier for our dies and embossing folders, they’ll be manufactured differently, which means the way you use them will be a little different. We’ll highlight a few of the changes between the old-style and new-style products below. In the future, we’ll also provide videos to show how to craft with the new-style dies and embossing folders and better showcase the features described below.

We’re confident the new-style products will continue to uphold our high-quality standards and that you’ll be happy with your crafting results using the new style.

Here are some of the changes you’ll notice with our new-style dies and embossing folders:

  • Our new-style open dies (those that coordinate with stamps) use a high quality metal that’s thinner than before but still as strong and durable.
  • The new-style dies have an added lip to the inside of the blades.
  • On old-style dies, when you place an open die (dies that coordinate with stamps) over a stamped image, a small border of cardstock is visible around the stamped image. With new-style dies, the die hugs the edge of the stamped image. Instead of aligning the die to the space around the stamped image, you will align it to the edges of the stamped image. When the image is cut, there will still be a cardstock border around the image.

Stampin' Up! new style cutting dies verses the old style

  • We’ve improved the adhesive that secures the dies to the insert sheet in the package so that it’s not too sticky. It’s easier to remove dies from the insert sheet, and the adhesive won’t cling to the dies.
  • We’ve standardized the size of the die inserts for easier storage based on our observation of how demonstrators store their dies. There are now only two insert sizes: 5″ x 7″ (12.7 x 17.8 cm), which coordinate in size with our stamp cases, and 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm). The standard sizes will allow uniform storage in whatever system you use. The envelopes that the dies come in will be slightly larger.
  • With old-style Dynamic folders, we recommended you spritz cardstock before embossing to soften the fibers so you got a better impression. Now, that extra step will not be necessary because the new-style folders usually create a crisp impression without spritzing. The way the new folders are manufactured also gives us options for more detailed and intricate designs in the future.
  • 3D folders are thinner than our old-style Dynamic folders. Because they are thinner, you will need to use a shim, depending on the die-cutting & embossing machine you use.
Get the Q & A details on the new dies and embossing folders by clicking HERE.

Last Chance Retiring Stampin’ Up! Items

Hi Stampers.  It’s that time of year again – time for a new catalog full of wonderful new product.  To make room for all the wonderful new product a few things need to be retired. I am posting the retirement list below in PDF and Excel (easy to sort) versions for your review.  They will continue to manufacture all stamps up til May 24th, after that it’s while supplies last (like the rest of the list). Please note that Stampin’ Up! is retiring clear mount stamps and making all those sets in cling mount instead.  Because of this, those stamp sets are listed on the retirement list as retiring. I have highlighted those that will carry over in the new format. Be sure to place your order soon for those items you want that are retiring, once this list comes out – things sell out pretty quickly.  This is especially true for Designer Series Paper and the out-going In-Color items.

I would also like to remind you that bundles are only offered at the 10% off the first time they appear in a catalog.  Therefore, if there is a bundle you like that is carrying over, you save money buy buying it now instead of later when they are only sold separately.

As always, my store is open 24/7 for you to shop online and I encourage you to contact me for any of your Stampin’ needs.

Spring Has Sprung – Wobble Card

Hi Stampers.

Welcome to the Pals’ March Blog Hop. We’re so glad you’re here because ”Spring has Sprung” – at least on our blog hop if not outside! Our Design Team created beautiful projects to inspire you. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

When they announced that this blog hop would be called “Spring has Sprung”, the idea of a wobble card (on a spring) sounded perfect!  This little jumping frog from the 2019 Sale-A-Bration level 1 options looks like he should wobble.

I started this card with a Mossy Meadow card base, 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. The word hooray from the Stampin’ Up! Well Written thinlits dies were used on the big shot to cut the words out of Mossy Meadow, Old Olive and Pear Pizazz card stock.  On the Big Shot, the Cala lillies were cut out of Old Olive CS using the Catch of the Day thinlits dies.

The frog, from So Hoppy Together (a level 1 Sale-A-Bration item), was stamped onto a scrap of Whisper White CS using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I colored him using the Old Olive Stampin’ Blends Duo and cut him out using the paper snips. (If you were one of the lucky ones who got the coordinating Hop It Framelit dies before they sold out – you can use those.)

The spring was created by wrapping a 26 gauge wire around a paintbrush (or pencil, or straw, anything that size) leaving a 1/2″ straight piece at each end of the “spring”.  Attach one end of the “spring” to the back of the frog using tape and attach the other end to the card front using tape. Now it’s a “wobble card”!

For the inside of the card I used a piece of Whisper White CS, 4″ x 5-1/4″.  I stamped the frog, crown and butterfly from the So Hoppy Together stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento ink. The frog was colored with Old Olive Stampin’ Blends duo, the crown was colored with the dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend and the butterfly was colored with the Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends duo. The sentiment, from the Well Said stamp set was also stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.

I used the Tropical Escape DSP to decorate the flap on a Whisper White Medium Envelope. It came out super cute.  I hope you give it a try! Next in this post, I have included a video of how I made this card.  It was one of my Facebook Live posts from my Facebook page. Each Monday at 2:30pm I go live on my Facebook page.  You should join me!  If you don’t do Facebook, you can find those videos (edited) uploaded to my YouTube Channel.  Please subscribe and click the bell for notification to be notified each time a new video is uploaded.

Geared Up Garage

Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop Badge

Hi Stampers. Welcome to another Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop.  This time we are showcasing projects made using new products from the Stampin’ Up! 2019 Occasions Catalog and the 2019 Sale-a-bration brochure. For my card, I chose to use the Geared Up Garage set.  I can’t tell you how excited I was to spot this set in the new catalog.

Stampin' Up! Geared Up Garage Best Dad handmade card made by Lisa Ann Bernard of Queen B Creations

My card started with a pacific Point card base, 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. Next, I made good use of the coordinating Classic Garage Designer Series Paper stack.  I cut the red piece to 5-1/4″ x 4″ and make two flags out of two other pieces in the stack. The piece with the steering wheels was cut to 3″ x 4″ and I flagged it with the paper snips. I used the banner triple banner punch to flag the gray piece, cut to 1-1/2″ x 4″.

Using the largest circle in the Stitched Shapes Framelit Dies, I cut a circle out of Whisper White CS.  I then stamped the oil spills and nuts in Basic Gray ink.  Using the Best Dad stamp and Real Red ink, I stamped the sentiment onto Whisper White CS. The emblem die from the Garage Gears Thinlit set was used to cut out the sentiment and another one in Silver Foil paper.  I inserted the sentiment into the emblem and attached both to the circle using glue dots.  All pieces were then attached to the card front using liquid glue.

The inside of the card is lined with a 5-14″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White CS with a 1″ x 4″ strip of DSP on the right side.  I stamped the sentiment in Real Red ink and adhered this layer to the inside of the card with liquid glue.
