Bright Summer Scrapbook Layout

Hi Stampers. I have had some fun recently with an old love – scrapbooking.  I was a scrapbooker long before I was a cardmaker.  Scrapbooking is what drew me to Stampin’ Up!  I had gotten frustrated with the sticker letters that we were all using for titles.  I would run out of the right color / right letter I needed and would have lots of excess letters I did not need.  Then came Stampin’ Up! and the ability to buy an alphabet stamp set and ink – voila – no more running out of letters!!  How cool is that!?!?

When the Large Letter Framelit Dies came out, I knew I had to have them! Look at the word “summer” in this layout – isn’t that awesome!?!  Hopefully, you purchased these dies when I told you to because they are now retired. However, we did get a new set of dies – hand-lettered prose.

Whether you have the other set or not, this is a good set of dies to add to your scrapbooking and cardmaking supplies. (The word “prose” was new to me so I looked it up.  According to Mirriam-Webster, prose means: “the ordinary language people use in speaking or writing“.)

This summer layout is part of an upcoming class I will be hosting in my craft studio here in Twin Falls, Idaho.  I started with a 12″ x 12″ Whisper White base and cut color blocks of CS in Granny Apple Green, Pool Party, Melon Mambo, Coastal Cabana, Pineapple Punch and Gorgeous Grape.  I found them to be nice bright cheery colors for summer.

The word “summer” was die cut using the Large Letter Framelit Dies (now retired) and Melon Mambo CS.  I die cut the Adirondack chair, using the Seasonal Dies, from DSP that had a wood look to it. The beach scene was stamped using the Stampin’ Up! High Tide stamp set and Crumb Cake, Mossy Meadow and Basic Gray ink. The sun was die cut using Daffodil Delight CS and the Layering Circles Dies.  I snipped the larger circle using paper snips and sponged the edge of both with Daffodil Delight ink.

Onto the second page of the layout, I used strips of CS as a background and then layered Whisper White squares over it with color blocks inside of those.  These will make great spots to put your photos.  This two page layout will easily hold 10 photos!

On the bottom of the second page I have three sets of sunglasses. I used the retired Stampin’ Up! stamp set – Pocketful of Sunshine and stamped in Memento Black ink onto Pineapple Punch, Melon Mambo and Coastal Cabanna CS and die cut them with the Pocket Dies. I hope the class attendees like this layout as much as I do!  If you would like to purchase the items used in the making of this layout, I have provided links below for your use.

Layering Alphabet Friends Mini Photo Album

Hi Stampers. I’m mixing old and new for this adorable little photo book. The Lined Alphabet stamp set and coordinating Layering Alphabet dies are carrying over. This beautiful Bird Ballad designer series paper will debut in our new annual catalog. I combined the two for today’s project.

I cut each page for the book (measurements below) using the Layering Alphabet dies. Then stamped the letters from the Lined Alphabet stamp set in memento black ink. Since the stamps are photopolymer the are clear so you can see where you are stamping.

For the pages I used the following colors of cardstock: Bermuda Bay, Pool Party, Petal Pink, Calypso Coral, Soft Suede, Daffodil Delight, Mossy Meadow and Smokey Slate. These colors are listed as being used in the Bird Ballad DSP, so that made it easy! I started with the back page and reduced each page by 5/8″.  The measurements are:

  • 4-1/4′ x 6-5/8″ – F
  • 4-1/4″ x 7-1/4″ – R
  • 4-1/4″ x 7-7/8″ – I
  • 4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″ – E
  • 4-1/4″ x 9-1/8″ – N
  • 4-1/4″ x 9-3/4″ – D
  • 4-1/4″ x 10-3/8″ – S
  • 4-1/4″ x 11″ – back

This book is decorated using the new Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper,  For the front cover I used a piece 4″ x 5-1/4″ and for the back page a piece 4″ x 10-3/4″. I used my Zutter Bind-it-all to punch the ends and add the coil. (It could use a smaller coil, this was the only size I had on hand.)

Good Morning Magnolia Spring Scrapbook Layout

Hi Stampers. Recently, I’ve decided to get back to something I love that I haven’t done in a while – scrapbooking.  Stampin’ Up! makes fabulous products that work wonderfully for scrapbook layouts. For this Springtime layout, I used a new stamp set from the 2019-2020 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog – Good Morning Magnolia.

I created this beautiful spring layout using the Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper.  This made it easy to choose what other colors to use.  I just looked at the back of the pack of DSP and used the coordinating colors listed on there.  This meant I started out designing on two pieces of Early Espresso 12″ x 12″ cardstock. I partnered that with So Saffron, Petal Pink and Mossy Meadow CS.

I used several strips of the Magnolia Lane DSP that were flagged on the ends using the triple banner punch. For the title “Spring”, I used the large letter framelit dies. These are fabulous for scrapbooking!

I cut out the word “spring” twice and layered the two colors on top of each other to give it some depth. If you are a scrapbooker and don’t own these yet, you want to pop on over to my online store and buy these Large Letter Dies before they retire at the end of the month.

These gorgeous Magnolia flowers were stamped in Memento black ink using the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set. I colored them using the stampin’ blends markers and die cut them using the coordinating Magnolia Memory Dies.

The butterfly is die cut from the Butterfly Beauty Dies.  I used just a portion of the large group of butterflies. Hobby Lobby had their 12″ x 12″ photo frames on sale for $5 each. I bought them so I could frame the layout and hang it on the studio wall. It was a layout too pretty not to frame.

This beautiful suite will be available when the new catalog goes live on June 4th.  If you are one of my customers, you should have your copy of the new catalog or you will be getting it in the mail soon.

It’s National Scrapbook Day!

Happy National Scrapbook Day!

In 1994, Creative Memories (which is now Anhi & Zoe), declared the first Saturday in May, National Scrapbook Day.  Anyone who know me, knows I’m a big time Scrapbooker.  I have been since I had my son, Troy, in 1991.

I tired to turn my mom and my mother in law onto scrapbooking too.  But, all it did was convince my mom to pull all her photos out of the photo albums that were turning the photos all yellow. She got them all mixed up and way out of order in the process and then got frustrated and split the photos between my brother and I. Now we each have a very mixed up (incomplete) set of photos of our childhood.

This gave me more drive to do the scrapbooking for my kids.  Note: this was all in the pre-digital age.  I had all my photos printed in duplicates and scrapbooked everything twice.  Once for Troy and once for Kristina, my daughter. The extra hiccup in my plan is that I’m a big time photographer.  I photographed EVERYTHING!  This made scrapbooking a huge process.  Most of my scrapbooking got done at scrapbook retreat weekends and most of my pages are pretty simple.

Fast forward 23 years and despite my best efforts to keep up, I’m several years and hundreds of photos (if not more) behind!  So imagine my excitement when Stampin’ up! decided to partner with Becky Higgins and bring us Project Life by Stampin’ Up!

This layout was so simple to put together and didn’t require nearly as many supplies as I’m used to carrying to my scrapbook retreats!  I got a two page spread done really quickly and didn’t have a mess to clean up!  I love it!  I think I’ve just got my second wind on scrapbooking!  I may get caught up yet!

Who wants to join me in getting caught up on their scrapbooking or simply learning how to scrapbook?  As of yesterday, May 1st, 2014 – Project Life by Stampin’ Up! supplies can be purchases in my online store!
